yes, i grabbed clip on red LED blinky lights at an outdoor shop on weaver
street in carrboro next to the market and fleet feet. The cheapest I've
seen, less than $20 if I remember correctly, maybe under $10 and they had a
lot.
Generally, look at running gear sections of outdoor places or bicycle
sections, Dicks Sporting goods, REI(most expensive!), and even wal mart.
Don't think I've seen anything like this at target.
Also, if you want to make them very cool and fancy, try El Wire. With
several feet you could simply wrap it around the tripod legs and zip tie.
Very easy to work with. However buy the thicker el wire, the really thin
stuff tends to not last. ( also examine where the el wire connects to the
battery pack, you will probably find a thick piece of shrink tape covering
some piece of electronics, this attachment point is sensitive to breakage so
secure it. ) also purple is fairly dim, and yellow may be too bright for
night vision. Choose colors carefully.
Just google for sites. You can get it locally at auto shops, look in the
sections where the "bling" is. Though generally the car shops don't have
the battery pack El Wire, instead 12 volt cigarette lighter hook ups. You
want El Wire with a battery pack.
Oh, lastly, there are battery pack christmas lights. I've found them locally
at a world market type place in Durham at Brightleaf square, Morgan
Imports. Another easy to wrap lighting thing, although I tend to wrap the
brighter colors in duct tape if they are in my eyes. The LED xmas lights
are very bright, but, for kid events. Hmm, I think they had dimmer colors
too, in this case I would go with purple not blue.
Other hobby - I build art projects specifically made for nightime so I know
a lot about this stuff. Clearly my hobby of looking at glowing objects in
the night sky is not related! :)
