Chris,
Well, interesting you should ask ...
A couple of friends and I are going to Pettigrew State Park near Creswell, NC just for that very purpose - to see Omega Centauri and Centaurus A. But it is probably a long way for you to go (it is off US 64 on the way to the Outer Banks from Raleigh). And the fires over in Dare County might cause us some problems as well. Let me know if you are interested in joining us.
But there should be some places on the edge of Jordan Lake that have a good southern horizon. Anyone else from CHAOS planning on trying to catch Omega Centauri this weekend?

If so, would any be going to a spot where the horizon is feasibly low enough to observe Centaurus A and possibly Omega Centauri? This weekend will likely be my only chance to aim for these targets. I was kicking myself last weekend that I did not at least bring some binoculars to Atlantic Beach when I took the church youth group on their annual retreat. I looked over the ocean and could see Centaurus staring me in the face! If you have any recommendations, please let me know. My go-to spot here in Person County is a rural baseball field that has good horizons in every direction except for the tree and parking lot light directly to the south.
