That’s an awesome moon image! I can’t get over the details.

Here’s some images I snapped while hiking around Mt. St. Helens around 1993 or so:

I was at mount saint helens several years ago. It was a strange and unusual experience. Years later it is still desolate. Desolate and beautiful

... and they presented the image with the correct orientation - shadow up! The one letter I ever wrote to Sky and Telescope was about this issue since S+T often publish images with the shadow down, making a hillock look like a hole (S+T did not print my letter). As for hiking, I'll be at Mount St. Helens later this summer and expect to see a similar landscape. Now if I can only get oriented with the shadows - was it up or down? Walter

On APOD, this is the new pic………I know some of you get this already, but I have it set as a home page.

I know watching the moon, and even recently at Medoc, Robert and I noticed how the shadows were so noticeable in certain areas near the terminator. Always a different view, but this view first made me think about those shadows, and I of course was just blown away by the detail from the orbiter.

Backpacking anyone?

Really something……..
