Hi all. The location Kathleen and i discussed at the last CHAOS
meeting is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=37.073652,-79.211394&spn=0.007062,0.016866&sll=37.035924,-79.221267&sspn=0.093504,0.053337&gl=us&t=h&z=17
Pretty much the entire right half of the screen (but only down to the
river) is part of the property in question.
The corresponding light-pollution map is:
http://www.jshine.net/astronomy/dark_sky/index.php?lat=37.05764298234446&lng=-79.178466796875&zoom=12&pollution=true&selected_id=1319
Altavista is the nearest "large" town, and is on the other side of a
mountain.
It's about 2 hours driving time (about the same as Staunton River),
but there's lots of space to camp, even beside your scope. Would
anybody be interested in an observing session there to see what it's
like?
If so, let me know, and i'll talk to Kathleen's dad about it.
J.
