Hi Fred -
I was just debating the $299 RC scope as well - went as far as posting
(elsewhere) looking for advice on what type of OTA to get. I ended up going
with a CG-5GT mount and a slightly older C8 (starbright coatings, but not
XLT). I purchased both off Astromart (marketplace for used astro stuff)
along with a bunch of accessories like a diagonal, focal reducer, dew
shield, etc. I decided I wanted a bit more aperture than the 6" RC and the
SCT was the most versatile way to do this without going up to the larger
size of a newtonian... Plus, I already own a 10" dob.
A big part is what you plan to do with the scope. My longer term plan is
some stellar spectroscopy and hopefully video imaging/broadcasting.
