BTW, I meant to mention that today was National Aviation Day because it is
Orville Wright's Birthday and he was the first of the brothers to leave the
ground in the plane on Dec 17, 1903. So they used his birthday for the
National Aviation Day date when Franklin Roosevelt commemorated it back in
the 30's.
They are having another centennial celebration Oct 21 to 24 to remember the
world record glider flight by Orville Wright in 1911. That is during the
East Coast Star Party, and that is so close, I will probably try to visit
one of those days that weekend. allen

Had a great time at the Wright Brothers National Monument today. Met the
senior curator of Aeronautics at the National Air and Space Museum..he had
two interesting books. Also gave an very interesting talk. My father flew
a B17 in WWII and he talked to me a lot about that, and had an extensive
section in his history of aviation about WWII planes and what they meant to
the war effort. A very nice and down to earth guy.
Met a lot of other folks...one guy was set up outside with a Coronado PST.we
talked at length...turns out he wants to do a star party at the Monument and
I told him I would help and go if that happened.
Really a cool place..lots of neat talks and I learned more than on any
previous visit. Lots of kids building kites and hearing about the future of
flight and space from NASA reps.
A really wonderful day. allen
