State Geologist in NC is reporting that the quake was centered at a
thrust fault at the juncture between the Blue Ridge and Piedmont
mountain ranges.
We definitely felt it in RTP, I'm on the 3rd floor and saw side to
side swaying that I remember well from growing up north of Los
Angeles.

We are in the middle of the North American plate which is normally
pretty stable but today's quake was centered just north of the Central
Virginia Seismic Zone .
