Thanks for the report Allen. I finally got out last night for the first time since August 5th. I had to kill a bunch of spiders and remove the webs. I took out a few wasps nests as well. Amazing how fast critters move in when your not around.
I got a good look at the comet Garradd C/2009 P1 finally. Very nice and high in the sky. A little south of Zenith in Aquila. M8, M20, M17 and 16 were nice to look
at and get reacquainted . Hopefully I can get back out tonight.
Jayme

Subject: [Chaos-l] Last night and tonight
Thanks to Alexey and Christi for joining us last night. Jason came for a while. I set up my Takahashi 152 … I don’t set it up as often as I should. I have a loaner vehicle (Dodge Journey) while my Explorer is in the shop. So the refractor fit the bill.
Nice evening……Milky Way very much in evidence. It was actually a little more transparent I think than Saturday. The seeing was not terribly good, although the globulars looked really nice even with the 6” scope. I really believe a well made 6” lens can outperform a larger reflector sometimes. No central obstruction. I also looked at some of the nebulae and M22 in Sag. The double double in Lyra was nice, although not as good as it was in Robert’s 106 Saturday night. Andromeda and its companions looked very good with the 30mm Leitz giving only about 41x on this scope. Jupiter was still quite low when I decided to take down…it was getting very wet and I was a bit tired as was Jason. I got home around 130am.
I think I may plan to go back tonight for a while….the forecast and the CSC look good for tonight, after that it deteriorates the next several days. Hurricane Irene looks like it shifts further and further to the east each time they give an update, which is probably a good thing. But it will keep things unsettled I imagine for the weekend. We’ll see.
Anyway, if anyone wishes to join me this evening let me know. I need practice setting up this NJP mount and polar aligning……it went smoothly last night…..I found that using the binoculars to identify the stars in the vicinity of Polaris, and comparing to the polar finder really helped me home in on North. allen
