Oh yeah, I was able to get a really good view of one of my old favorites.
NGC 253..in Sculptor......showed lots of detail....dust lanes and man is it
big.  allen

Well, I certainly must be running on excitement, but I think I am going to
go to Medoc a little while tonight just to see if it is worth trying to
observe Jupiter later on, or just to scan around a bit earlier.  The
forecast looks really crappy the next several days.and this may be the last
op to observe for a while.

 

Pettigrew was great last night...moon set around midnight and it got very
dark.  St. Quintet, ngc 7479 (barred.spiral.you could see the bar easily!).
The Veil was really outrageous.  And Jupiter was stead too.  I arrived
around 630pm and invited some folks from the campground, which was mostly
empty.  But a family came over and spent a little over an hour with me on
the boat dock.  Very interested people with two kids, an 11 year old boy and
a little girl.who were thrilled, but the adults were just as excited.  They
were most appreciative, and it reminded me once again just how important it
is to invite people and be open to them sharing.  You never know who your
gonna meet and what good it may do.  It is one way that I know I can
contribute.
