Voice sync doesn’t work when you have the guidance system talking too.  Sorry about the misspelling below.  The STAUNTON RIVER STAR PARTY was a success .  We got great views Friday night.  Really nice … M15…the Veil of course.  And using Sky Safari, we pinned down Oberon and Titania, two of Uranus’ moons, and then Triton near Neptune.  The seeing was so good that these outer planets were resolved to sharp edged discs at 318x.  Jupiter was pretty spectacular….given the great seeing.

 

Lots of fog Friday, but for some reason the skies remained mostly clear until 230am or so.  We dodged a few clouds, but the night was a success….Robert, Jayme, Steve, Doug, and I stayed up most of the observable evening.  

 

Got up the next morning and had coffee…and over the afternoon a few more folks came in….actually given the forecast more than anyone thought I think.  A number of folks from RAC.  Good to see Patrick Moore.  And thanks to members of RAC for cooking hamburgers and hotdogs for supper.  Mike from Chapel Hill gave an excellent slide presentation on Vesta and the NEAR project.  

Beth came Saturday evening…just BEFORE dark. 

 

Thanks Beth…sorry the skies didn’t cooperate Saturday.  All that Mojo from Mark Clegg in Pittsboro, and well, my scintillating personality didn’t keep the clouds away Saturday night.  But a very pleasant experience.

 

The park is a nice place…the first time I had been there.  The sky showed a lot of potential Friday…..it was very nice with low light domes at first…when moisture increased they did some, but overall the sky was really glorious with the Milky Way really great from horizon to horizon.  

 

I know that Jayme and some others are planning to try and make this go in the future so I urge everyone to plan to attend it.  It is worth it.  allen
