[Chaos-l] Star party

Allen,

And you are too modest ... you really did a great job "on the spot" when the Boy Scouts arrived. Beth and I were impressed with the talk you were giving them at your scope!

So yes, as good as the skies were on Friday ... they were that bad on Saturday - you could see *some* stars, but only for a brief period of time. Essentially, the sky was completely covered with a blanket of clouds for the entire night. What a disappointment for the folks that came!

Well, there's always next year. I think we're going to try this twice on 2012 ... once in the spring and once in the fall. Try to join us then!

Robert

Really nice … M15…the Veil of course. And using Sky Safari, we pinned down Oberon and Titania, two of Uranus’ moons, and then Triton near Neptune. The seeing was so good that these outer planets were resolved to sharp edged discs at 318x. Jupiter was pretty spectacular….given the great seeing.

Good to see Patrick Moore. And thanks to members of RAC for cooking hamburgers and hotdogs for supper. Mike from Chapel Hill gave an excellent slide presentation on Vesta and the NEAR project.
