And the ethanol was touted as a win win for everyone including the gas
jobbers, but I can tell you from my own experience that putting ethanol in
gas isn't just a matter of dropping it and moving on. You have to make sure
the mixture in the ground is correct...that there is enough gas there and no
water. If you get too much ethanol in the gas the water will precipitate
out and engines die. And the tax credits that companies get for the ethanol
decreased right before I left my job, and it may be even lower now.

The paper trail involving ethanol and accounting for it was a real pain.

They do pretty well with the pottery stuff too - lots of small mom and
pop pottery studios over there that do well.
But not really capable of absorbing/employing hundreds of out of work
chicken processing folks.

You can blame a lot of that on our current energy policy. When we
started using corn for making ethanol for car fuel, it drove the price
of corn through the roof. That then drove the price of animal feed up
to the point that most chicken and cattle producers couldn't afford
it. A lot of the cattle folks switched over to other feed sources,
but the poultry industry isn't as nimble and got clobbered. Just
Google Pilgrims Pride for a better and more detailed story of how the
whole thing blew up.
