Robert and I talked about this Friday night. I had done a bit of "surgery"
the previous weekend on the NJP. I noticed that the drive box seemed loose.
I brought it in on the kitchen table in the house, and took off the box and
discovered the steel rods that hold the box had worked loose after years of
transporting. They simply screwed in. Then I did the "cigarette paper"
thing to set the gap in the gears when I cinched the drive back down.
Robert can tell you it worked very smoothly this Friday.
The reason these pics turned out is not so much me, but the fact that the
Tak mounts are so exact, and yes, maybe I got a good polar alignment. The
exposures ranged from 1 minute to 3 minutes. A couple had slightly
elongated stars, but that seemed to be on the ones where I used the
diagonal. I removed it and used another extensions tube straight through.
That made a difference.
It was really just a lot of fun and wasn't hard. The Tak mounts are little
engineering feats I think. allen
