Had a very nice time Saturday night, and we were able to enjoy some very
nice views before CLOUDS came in. we had a few clouds move over briefly
early on, but they went on and it stayed clear for perhaps a couple of
hours. But the clouds did come and how, and everyone left well before
midnight.
The highlights for me were NGC 1999, a reflection nebula, and also IC418, a
planetary nebula. Both mentioned by Jim Palermo. Thanks again Jim for
bringing something new and unusual to the observing experience. Both
objects were unusual, NGC 1999 being a bright reflection nebula with a
"hole" caused by jets from young stars. Also, the planetary IC418 exhibited
a "bubble gum" color, as Jim put it. It really did!
Thanks for Mark Montazer and Hattie for coming for the first time. We
appreciated your making the trek to Medoc. I hope you will return soon.
Thanks to Michael and Sandi, Alexey, Jim, Frank Jones, Beth, and Matt and
his son Jack. Jack was a first time visitor..he is a bright and personable
six year old.
We enjoyed telescope time as well as fire time.
A very nice night. allen
