I had a great time Jon, thanks for inviting me for the observing session. M81 and 82 were a treat to see from Farrington. As you recall I mentioned that finding galaxies there had always been a problem so thanks to your superior experience I did in fact get a good look at a couple last night. I thought we got off to a spectacular start which continued until the moon rose. Seeing was good enough for Xun to make out some features on Mars under high magnification which I think was quite thrilling for her. Her enthusiasm was nothing less than inspirational and I hope she will continue with us as it was a pleasure to meet her.
It was as you said, a very nice night, a rare treat around here with the light and weather we so often have. Until the next time then.

The stars and planets were coming out well before the sky started to "properly" darken. Once Polaris was visible, i was able to align the ETX quickly and easily using the new screweye finder i built yesterday (i'll try to post a picture tomorrow), and picked up the two double stars i needed early on. Phil and Xun were tracking stuff down in Phil's 10" Meade SCT.
