Hello, CHAOS and RAC members -
Based on weather forecasts for tomorrow night (Saturday, April 21), we are cancelling the public skywatching session at Jordan Lake. The probability of rain/storms/clouds during the hours of the session is unacceptably high.
But do remember tonight's (Friday, April 20) session at Little River Regional Park. Mickey says we're currently still on for that. We know there are competing activities tonight, but if you're available, she'd love to have you come out!
And please mark your calendars for our next skywatching session/ big event:
TUESDAY, June 5, 5:30-8:30 p.m. It will be at the Morehead Planetarium building (not Jordan Lake). Join us in celebrating the transit of Venus ... our last chance till the year 2117! We are seeking volunteers who can help provide options for safe solar viewing (e.g., solar telescopes, Sun Funnel, and the like -- see http://www.transitofvenus.org/june2012/eye-safety/281-six-ways-to-see-the-transit-of-venus -- we already have 500 "solar shades" on hand and will have webcam views through the Morehead telescope (w/ solar filter on it). This event is rain or shine, as we will have plenty of non-weather-dependent things for the public to do -- hands-on educational activities, science talks, live mini-shows in the planetarium, Morehead Observatory tours. And we will watch the transit via internet if necessary. This is a free event, all ages welcome.
thanks,
Amy Sayle
