Wonderful story, Jayme. Amazing. Thank you.
Skies were clear here as well.
We had to make the call before 5:00. When I talked to Ranger Mike, the clear sky clock showed clear skies at Little River, but he was seeing no blue anywhere - so we couldn't trust what the rest of the evening would be.
Thank you for showing folks the sky. I'm so glad you were there.
I have forwarded your email to Mike.
Mickey

Subject: [Chaos-l] Little River Observing
Well, being one that doesn't keep up with my emails like I should, I missed the cancellation email
at Little River. Fortunately I wasn't the only one.
I arrived at Little River a little after 8pm and found the gates were locked. A future member of CHAOS
was there already and he thought that he had the wrong day. I told him wasn't wrong, but maybe it had
been cancelled.
Sure enough, when I checked my email finally and saw that it had been cancelled. We sat and talked about
the club with my car sitting in the middle of the road. Well the next thing we know, we have two vans loaded
with people pulling into the entrance. Then another car and another. Bill and I decided to pull out the telescopes
and show folks Venus, Mars and Saturn. Randy showed up and joined us.
In all about 30 people showed up and we treated them to the planets. We had a streetlight and the neighbors
insecurity lighting to contend with so that made it difficult to find some deepsky objects.
The people there were awesome. They had so many questions and were blown away by Saturn, as usual. We showed
Venus,Venus. That is a young lady named Venus. We met Sarah from Main, who belongs to a New England astronomy
club. She wanted to come to the Star Party but missed the registration dead line. She said she would be there next year.
Sarah was an added blessing. She took people on a constellation tour and also managed the traffic situation.
So as a non-event, tonght was a huge success. Also if you want to smash the ice, pull out the telescope, people start talking.
We had clear skies,
