I would like to offer my thanks to the CHAOS folks who set up on the 4th
floor deck at Morehead for allowing me a chance top see this wonderful
event. Yes Allen, Venus was big, because it is really nearer to us that
we are use to seeing it. You know how wide Venus can get in a thin
crescent phase as it had been prior to getting close to transit, but
seeing it against the sun was just unreal good. I have seen two transits
of Mercury, which is a much smaller dot on the sun's disk (many sunspots
were larger). I am also happy the sky opened up at the end, but I am
afraid the sun probably set too low for the throng of people waiting in
line at Morehead, it was a huge crowd. My son and I got there early, so
we avoided the huge crowd at first.
Many thanks,
Forest Dalton
