Well, it was my intention to get out to Medoc tonight, since I was too
tired last night, but the forecast doesn't justify the drive tonight.
Fingers crossed for next weekend though.
I suspect the weather is misbehaving because I picked up an Explore
Scientific Mak-Newt (thanks to Tony Garcia for entertaining my
questions about it.) I did get a chance to play with it on my balcony
last night and scraped a couple of photons from the Lagoon Nebula
(http://astrobin.com/12593/). I had to over-stretch it to bring out
the detail, but it's much better than my achro would produce.
Actually, since I don't have to deal with chromatic aberration I took
a shot of Antares (http://astrobin.com/12523/) and was happily
surprised at how yellow it was (I was using daylight white balance.)
When the moon came up I decided to push the magnification a bit and
threw in a 4.5mm eyepiece with a 2X Barlow for 325X. To my surprise
the view was still excellent. Granted, the moon is really bright
target, but my achro was far more restrictive in that regard. Anyhow,
I'm looking forward to observing at Medoc soon.
