Regarding skywatching, I too have been looking for an opportunity to bring out my scope. A couple nights it was clear but the seeing was not so good. Then last night a storm blew through Chapel Hill and knocked out the power. Great, I thought, now at least I won't have light pollution to add to the poor seeing. So I went out and sure enough, after 30 minutes of mediocre, yet exciting, viewing of the crescent moon, mars, jupiter and a couple Messier objects around Sagittarius, the lights popped back on. Argh!
