I called Spectrum Coatings and talked to Paul the owner.  I told him what a great job he did with my mirror.  Jim P., you'll have to back me up here.  But I honestly can tell a difference.  I have never seen nebular look like they did last night, even at Pettigrew.  I wonder what they would have looked like from there!

I first looked at the Trifid at about 250x, and the dark areas were really dark...and the nebula bright.  The contrast was great.  I switched to a slightly lower power for the Lagoon, and forgot to switch my O3 to that.  i was amazed at the Lagoon, and then remembered I was lookign at it without a filter!  When I stuck that in, it was really something.  Lots of detail far away from the "main parts".  the Swan was the same.  Lots of wisps and areas far away...and dark nebula that had never looked so obvious.

The Eagle was really nice.  Remember some of you guys (Robert et al) looking at the "pilars of Creation" in that..we struggled with it but think we saw them.  Well, they stood out easily last night.

Needless to saythe globs were great....M15 was a real stunner.  the Crescent was a lobsided bubble, and the Veil, well. JIm P. you'll have to chime in on that.

Caroline's Rose was one of my last targets.  Always nice of course.

I know the skies were very good last night, but I have observed at Medoc for over 20 years on nights better than last night occasionally.  (i am not complaining..it was excellent last night).  But the contrast seems punchier, and i was bowled over by the views.

I think paul at SC was really relieved when i called and praised it.  He said he realized from talking to me on the phone before I sent the mirror to him that I was "unusually meticulous" about it.

Well, he seems to have been just as meticulous in the job he did.  mine was the average 98% reflectivity coating.

As you can tell, i was thrilled with it.  allen
