[Chaos-l] Staunton River Star Party for Fall 2012

After a week of reflection, I'll chime in. Thanks a ton to Jayme,
Robert, and whoever else was involved in making this event happen. It
was a huge success, and I think everyone there expects it to grow a
lot in the future. Attendees all seemed to leave excited and
energized, looking forward to spreading the word and returning next
time.

The sky is very dark of course, and it paid off. The Milky Way looked
stunning, and the Great Rift was about as pronounced as I've ever seen
it. The deep sky objects I love looked as bright and well-defined as I
could ask for.

What really makes this star party is the park. The staff worked their
butts off to make it happen, and they are obviously very interested in
making our star party a success. The 22 hour-per-day food service was
a huge hit, and the red lighting in the cafe was a big improvement.
The bathroom facilities are VERY nice, and I would never guess they
were in a state park. With power on the field, a bottomless cup of
coffee, low horizons, and dark sky, this place is ideal.

We had a lot of good weather, and people had a great time. Thanks so
much to those who made it happen, and please keep myself and the rest
of the club posted on how we can pitch in to put on the next one.
