Amy (et. al)....

FYI - I haven't thawed out yet from last night, even tho I couldn't make it out to Ebenezer due to a conflict. Heard about a viewing at Finley Fields abutting Finley Golf Course. It was hosted by the UNC Graduate and Professional Students Assn. and had around 70-100 eager stargazers out there and, alas, only my telescope for those who wanted some views of Jupiter, Andromeda, Orion Nebula, and some of the other usual suspects given the humidity and light pollution in that low-lying area. Stayed until there was frost on my telescope. Talked up CHAOS a lot to many who asked (may get a couple UNC departments contact us), and also talked up the April 5th statewide event, noting that they should confer with Morehead's website for details.

Cheers, and clear skies....

Subject: [Chaos-l] Lots of people and meteors at Jordan Lake last night

Hi, all -

We had a large and enthusiastic crowd at last night's skywatching session at Jordan Lake (Ebenezer Church Recreation Area). About 350 people ooh-ed and ah-ed at the Geminid meteors. Many newcomers, it seemed. It was really gratifying to see so many willing to venture out on a cold weeknight to view nature's fireworks.

There's another public skywatching session scheduled for tonight (Friday 12/14), at Little River Regional Park. It's from 6-8 p.m. Info and directions at our website: http://www.moreheadplanetarium.org/
