Well, I always say a program is a success if you have one person that is
inspired. We had a father and son from Raleigh who came, and they seemed to
really have a good time for the short time we were able to observe. Robert
gave Brandon, who is 6, his passport to the sky and he filled out a number
of boxes of things he saw. We looked at M15 and M2 which looked really
really good. Caroline's rose was captured as some scudding clouds passed
by. And Jupiter, surprisingly, looked very good in both my 20 and Roberts
106mm/ then the clouds started to hinder us in earnest.
But Brandon and his Dad joined us by the fire for a while, and after they
left, we took our scopes down and Robert and Mark and I sat by the fire
enjoying more of Robert's warm apple cider and cookies, and we had some
snacks. I thank Robert and Mark for coming. We are old friends anyway so
even though the program didn't last long we still had a great evening.
BTW, we are fortunate that these folks came. Brandon's father, (I can't
remember his name) said that he called the park and asked about the Geminid
event Thursday and was told to come on out and he would be able to come.
When he arrived the gate was closed. Too bad. But he and Brandon came back
Saturday to hike, and we were able to show them some things.
I really had a good time. allen
