The campground is perhaps 1/4 mile from the observing field ... around a road and behind some trees, so you definitely cannot see our equipment from there. But in my opinion, that is a blessing as well ... we don't have problems with campfires or lanterns on the observing field.
You could sleep in your vehicle next to the observing field ... as Jim said, people have done it many times ... but it is not possible to setup a tent on the observing field. So depending on our sleeping arrangements, it may not work for you.
It is also possible on some of the campsites at Medoc to setup a scope and get a decent amount of clear sky ... not as much as on the observing field ... but you would miss out on visiting with folks (one of the things I enjoy).
