if you face south (as people in the Nth hemisphere do when
looking at the planets) and lean backwards about 70 deg to
get the same horizon as you have here, then the moon (and
Orion) looks the same as here.

It is disorienting to face the north and have the sun and
moon move through the sky anticlockwise (from right to
left).

I've just read a book by someone who grew up in the jungle
of New Guinea. The stars were so bright that she felt like
she could touch them. The run rose at 6am every day and set
at 6pm every day. The sun at noon was overhead (or near
enough) every day. The only indication of any seasons or
passage of time was whether it was wet or dry.

Only once have I seen the ecliptic vertical. I was in the
keys at WSP (24degN) and shortly after sunset jupiter and
saturn, about 30deg apart, formed a line normal to the
horizon.
