you don't understand the problem.

I'm very much in favor of public education and service.

You're prevailing upon the generousity of people to bring 
expensive, fragile and irreplacable equipment for the 
benefit of the public. The public regards telescopes as 
something to trip over, use the OTA for chin ups and to put 
their fingers on the optical surfaces.

I gave up offering my gear for the public about a decade 
ago. I now limit access to my equipment to controlled 
situations, like my front lawn for halloween.

My equipment will not be out of my (or a confederate's) 
arm's reach the whole time I'm there. I will need someone to 
guard my gear when I take a bathroom break.

I would hope the Morehead knows enough about telescopes to 
have planned parking before asking anyone to put their 
telescopes on the public line. When was the last time you 
dropped $1000 worth of equipment on a grassy public spot and 
drove off?
