you don't understand the problem.
I'm very much in favor of public education and service.
You're prevailing upon the generousity of people to bring
expensive, fragile and irreplacable equipment for the
benefit of the public. The public regards telescopes as
something to trip over, use the OTA for chin ups and to put
their fingers on the optical surfaces.
I gave up offering my gear for the public about a decade
ago. I now limit access to my equipment to controlled
situations, like my front lawn for halloween.
My equipment will not be out of my (or a confederate's)
arm's reach the whole time I'm there. I will need someone to
guard my gear when I take a bathroom break.
I would hope the Morehead knows enough about telescopes to
have planned parking before asking anyone to put their
telescopes on the public line. When was the last time you
dropped $1000 worth of equipment on a grassy public spot and
drove off?
I won't be dropping off anything. Thank you
Joe
