I expect if it had been cloudy and relatively dark (it was 
sunrise), then an announced blast or a blast preceded by a 
red glow through the clouds at a distance you couldn't 
estimate, then the initial interpretation of what happened 
could have been quite different. People would still be 
running around with geiger counters.
