probably will be able to get a couple of folks at least that night.  moon will be at first quarter...which means the moon will be up essentially most of them time these folks would stay up.  moon up first half of night and down last half. 



Saturn will be the highlight then.  it will just be after opposition...so actually will be rising just slightly before the sun sets and will be up all night essentially.  it should be high enough in the sky in early evening May 17th to give a good view. 



Guys......i am forwarding this on....so you can pencil this in and hopefully show up may 17th or 18th at Medoc to show the sights to this group!  allen

I got a phone call from a lady today that is bringing a cub scout group out here on May 17th-19th.  I will be doing a program for them at some point over the weekend, but they are also interested in doing a little sky watching.  There will be approximately 30 cub scouts (1st-5th graders) camping Friday and Saturday nights.  I told her that our astronomers were a volunteer group, and that I could not make her any promises, but that I would contact you and see if there was any possibility that someone from your group could get a scope or two out here on one of those nights.  She requested Friday night, but I am sure she would be willing to work with Saturday if that was better.   


Again, I already told her that it wasn't something we normally did, so don't hesitate to say no.  I just didn't want to tell her no, and then you guys show up on your own, and it look like I lied to her.  Of course, since its for a specific group, and not general public, I can always give her the "weather permitting" line if it works out.  They will be camping regardless, so cancelling this program would be much easier than the general public programs. 


We are working on a big Heritage Day event right now that is scheduled for May 18th, so there will be things for this group to do at the park, so its not a big deal at all if you all are busy.  I'll be out of town next week, but the following week I will be calling her back and telling her what we can do for her.  Like I said, I'm doing a program for the group, and we have the heritage day event, so a no-go on the astronomy will be fine.  Just let me know.  Thanks!
