Lurker response – First of all I love reading your star gazing adventures and following the information you folks post.

Regarding mosquito repellents I’ve found very effective a mix of cedar oil and citronella oil.  The cedar reduces the strong smell of the citronella and the two together seem to really confuse the mosquito smeller.  I first found it sold as a flea deterrent for pets, but it didn’t seem to do much for fleas but when I used it for mosquitoes I found it to be about 95 % effective.  I could see mosquitoes swarming around me, but got almost no bites.  The product is no longer available but I buy both oils and make my own mix in a spray bottle.

I had actually seen this. Maybe there is an opportunity here. Maybe we could come up with a formulation. Call it Medoc Mountain formula

Not something we want to hear, but it looks like DEET isn't the deterrence it once was...
