It's pretty far in advance but planning is already starting at the museum
so I wanted to get it on the club calendar and stuck in the back of
people's minds. It's a great opportunity for outreach.

The NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh is planning an International
Observe the Moon Night event on October 12, 2013 including observing on the
top level of the parking deck from sunset to about 9pm.

We'll need a couple of scopes and capable hands out there to assist the
public in viewing the moon and anything else we can find interesting.
Venus will be visible as well which makes for a natural story to tell
visitors about phasing (though Venus will be about 90% illuminated at the
time unfortunately and we are still about a month away from seeing
significant phasing from that planet).

I know this comes on the heels of the star party but RAC will be helping
out as well and the commitment shouldn't be long about the same as Jodan
Lake observing sessions in support of Morehead. We can work out the number
of volunteers available/needed closer to the date.

Thanks,
Tony

P.S. There is a Mars update teleconference scheduled for March 28 for
Night Sky Network astronmy clubs like ours, details here:
