Has the public been invited, say on fri evening (if I
remember, the night that green lasers are OK till 8pm)?
MASP used to have the scouts in on the friday night when it
was held at the scout camp site.
If they haven't been invited, and someone (an officer of the
club?) thinks it would be a good idea, I'd be happy to
contact the local high/middle/lower school to see if
anyone's interested. If this is OK to do, I'd be happy to
greet them on arrival (say sunset), explain the requirements
for safety with telescopes in the dark, let them have dinner
at the chuck wagon (or whatever it's called here) and then
direct them to volunteers (eg showing Abirio, Andromeda,
Jupiter, Double Cluster) for an hour or so. I could hand out
light wands/bracelets to the kids so they could find each
other and to the volunteers so the kids could find them.
I haven't been to SR so I will need parking instructions, so
that visitors can find us and later leave the park in the
dark.
It also would be nice if the webpage above could be changed
so that the high school people will know it really is OK to
come. Anyone know who to contact there?
Joe
