I managed to see it from my balcony, which is good because I have the flu 
so I wasn't going anywhere :-) We're on the top floor and the houses 
across the  street only block the first 3-5 degrees above the 
western horizon.

There was a bit of haze as the sun was going down so I was woorried that 
it would be a no-show, but I did eventually see the moon, and then the 
comet, with my 8x40 binoculars. The comet was definitely not naked eye at 
first, but I did manage to see it without binoculars by the time the moon 
set. Christi described viewing the comet naked eye as "it looks like a 
stuck pixel"; maybe that's because we have a lot of light pollution here 
in Brier Creek. Definitely not as bright as I'd been led to believe it 
would be, but a dim comet is better than no comet :-)
