Dear CHAOS Friends,
It has been such a thrill to read the glowing reports of last Friday’s Statewide Star Party. We just can’t thank - or praise - our CHAOS members enough for their big-hearted generosity in spreading out to at least seven events on one evening. Your stories and photos are wonderful. Please keep them coming.
At the risk of leaving out some people or assigning them to the wrong club (please send additions and corrections), we’d like to attempt a listing:
Jordan Lake – Ebenezer Church – Tony Rice, Brian Owen, Joe Pedit, Tony Garcia (~150 attendees)
Jordan Lake – Environmental Ed Center – Walter Fowler, Tony Hopp, Karl Kachergis (~25 attendees)
Little River – Jayme Hanzak, Richard McColman, Joe Mack, Steve Christensen (~35 attendees)
Marbles Kids Museum - Steve Andrews (lots of passersby both for solar and Jupiter)
Alamance Rec & Parks – Phil Suitt (? attendees)
Medoc Mountain- Robert Nielsen (100 attendees)
Eno River State Park – Mike Gallagher (20 attendees)
Airlie Gardens, Wilmington – Jon Stewart-Taylor (>1000 attendees)
In all 43 Star Parties were held (down from 46). Two combined, two canceled (one in the east for clouds, one in the west for ice storm), two moved to Saturday night.
Although it will be a few weeks before we have evaluations back, we are already dreaming big for 2014. We plan to give you a full report at a meeting this summer or early fall. (Jayme, this is your cue to book us.) We’d like to get your specific feedback on what worked well and what could be improved. How could we engage more astronomy clubs across the state?
We are proud to know you, proud to work with you, proud to share your passion for astronomy education.
Thank you.
