Personally I can't stand Win8.
I bought my daughter a new computer for Christmas and it came preinstalled.
I've been using Win7 64 bit for 3 or 4 yrs now and really like the speed
and stability. Being able to run 8 - 12 GB RAM on a machine really keeps
it snappy.
And I've not really had any issues with 32/64 bit compatibility issues.
My beef with win8 is them removing the start button and menu. The Metro
interface is fine - sort of feels like widgets on my android phone and
table. Not a problem there. But MOST of my apps I use I don't want to
have permanent residence and awareness on the desktop. Most of them, I
only want to use once in a while and to go away. Example would be my tax
software or finance software. Having them "metroized" is stupid.
I don't see why MS couldn't give us the Metro interface for what we want,
then keep the start menu and a quick launch bar for the rest.
If they don't fix that in a patch soon, I'll not migrate mine or my wife's
PC to it.
My daughters primary machine for years was a Unbuntu machine running KDE
desktop - I very well may do a dual boot on her new one.
