Dear People and Friends of the Advocate --

This week:
Tuesday, July 11 Community Engagement Group. All are welcome to
participate in discussion about the Advocate Tithe, Club Nova, Hurricane
Relief and more. At Ephesus Place. 7PM.
Wednesday, July 12 Unscheduled Contemplative Prayer. (Note: due to the
travels of the Contemplative Prayer convener, Contemplative Prayer will not
take place at Ephesus Place on July 12).
July 14-16 Gulf Coast Recovery Continues The 13 churches that make up the
Durham Convocation are working together to send a semi-trailer load of
supplies to the Christus Victor Lutheran Distribution Center in Mississippi.
The supplies that are needed are listed on the attached document. Volunteers
are needed to load up the trailer at St. Luke¹s this weekend. Drop-ins to
help at St. Lukes on Saturday and Sunday are very welcome. The hours are 8 -
8 on Saturday and 12 - 4 on Sunday. Folks from the Advocate will be there
Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. And of course, everyone is
encouragaed to drop by and bring items and to encourage friends, neighbors,
and co-workers to do the same. In addition to supplies, donations of money
are also welcome. Checks should be made out to St. Luke's Episcopal Church
with "MS supplies" specified on the memo line. Sallie Moore is coordinating
the response from the Advocate. If you have questions or would like to help,
contact Sallie Moore: sbmoore721 at aol.com.

year-olds during the Liturgy of the Word.
6:20 PM Advocate Table Fellowship Please plan to stay for supper

Table Talk: the Theology and Ministry of Place. During the table fellowship,
members of the Advocate vestry will be stationed at each table to listen to
your ideas about the Advocate¹s future physical presence in the community.
This will be a somewhat guided but open discussion, intended to solicit your
ideas, dreams and vision for what we as a congregation think about buildings
and land and what we might do with them. Additional opportunities for
congregational input will take place in the fall. The ultimate goal of this
process will be the formulation of a long-range plan for implementing the
Advocate¹s own brand of Theology and Ministry of Place. Please plan to join
us for all these discussions if you can.
7:00 PM Head out into the world in Peace.
And Beyond
Thursday, July 20 Evening Eucharist with Prayers for Liberation -- a
hands-on and intergenerational liturgy, the day set aside by the Episcopal
Church for the remembrance of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Amelia Bloomer,
Sojourner Truth, and Harriet Ross Tubman. We will pray for the liberation of
the world and of the oppressed, and that we may ourselves be liberated from
our despair. Bring a friend! At Ephesus Place. 7:00 PM. (See attached Flyer)

closet is packed up, we¹ll move our Table Fellowship to the Carolina Brewery

Internship at Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill.
NEW SUNDAY SCHEDULE AHEAD!!
In an effort better to accommodate the Sunday-Monday lives of many at the
Advocate, we will be moving to a new Sunday schedule beginning Sunday,
August 20. We will try it through May 2007 and see how it works for us.
3:30 4:00 PM Set-up and rehearsal of music of the day
4:00 4:45 PM Christian Education for all ages.
5:00 6:15 PM The Sunday Liturgy with Holy Eucharist
6:20 7:00 PM Advocate Dinner Fellowship or Just plain fellowship
(see note below)
ADVOCATE TABLE FELLOWSHIP A PARADIGM SHIFT
Two years ago, the People of the Advocate thought it would be good to gather
for food and fellowship in the half hour between the liturgy and Christian
Ed each Sunday. And it has been good indeed. Average attendance has grown
from 25 or so to well over 50 on most Sundays. Many of us have enjoyed the
Advocate Table Fellowship and it has become an integral part of our life
together. But a few people have had to do a LOT of work, to make it happen
week by week.
So.... as we look to the new schedule, beginning August 20, we also need to
look for a new way of doing the meals.
In the weeks ahead, those who participate regularly in the Table Fellowship
are asked to consider becoming part of a Table Group the current thought
is to form eight (or nine) groups of 5 people each. Each group will be
responsible for one entire meal cooking, set-up and clean-up one Sunday
out of every 8 (or 9).
Each group will decide who would do what in terms of cooking, set-up and
clean-up (a comprehensive, clear set of simple and easy-to-follow
instructions is also being compiled.)
The group will decide for themselves what the designated cooks will cook (a
booklet of recipes with recommendations for how to cook vegetarian for 50 or
more is being compiled, stock pots will be provided).
Groups will be regrouped after three rounds (six months).
Key to this model is that any one person will only serve once in a two month
period. If there is no group assigned to a given Sunday, we¹ll enjoy
fellowship, but not dinner. If an individual can¹t serve on the Sunday
assigned, she or he can work it out with others in the group, or arrange to
swap with someone in another group for that Sunday.
So get together with some others you know and form a group of five. Or sign
up to be in a group of others you don¹t yet know. Washing forks together is
a great way to bond!
If you have a group, or are willing to serve in a group with others, please
contact the Vicar. (lgf at ouradvocate.org).
If you already know of a Sunday between July 30 and September 31 when you
will be away, add that information to your contact.
The blessing of God,
The eternal goodwill of God,
The shalom of God,
The wildness and the warmth of God,
Be among us and between us
Now and always. Amen.
