Here¹s what¹s happening at the Advocate in the days ahead (new information
is printed in RED)
The Feast of the Epiphany, Saturday, January 6 at the Gwyn¹s at Dove Field
and High Hill.
5 PM Burning of the Greens, Holy Eucharist, and Advocate Potluck Feast.
Plan to bring your Christmas tree and any other greens to burn in the
Epiphany fire. As you are able, bring a dish to share at the Advocate Feast.

Three notes for our Epiphany Season:
1. An updated calendar for the Season of Epiphany is attached (Epiphany
Calendar II)
2. Our Adult Education will feature a 5-part series on Confronting the Sin
of Racism (see attached). I earnestly believe that this series is essential
to our life together as a Christian community and to our life in the
community and world in which we live. I strongly urge all People of the
Advocate to participate as fully as you are able in this series. 4-4:50 PM.
3. At the end of the liturgy each week, people will be Commissioned for
different aspects of our life, work and ministry in the world. (see
attached). Please plan to join in the Advocate Epiphany tradition you may
be commissioned on more than one occassion if the vocation fits at any
level, be commissioned and sent forth to do it faithfully!
Epiphany One, Sunday, January 7. At the Kehillah.
3:30 PM Set-up of worship space at the Kehillah and Rehearsal of music
for the day.
4:00 PM Christian Education
Toddlers 5 and under Our littlest learners will meet with Elizabeth
Lippincott and parent assistants for songs, stories and games.
6-10 year-olds will meet with Buck Cooper and with Laurea and the older
kids, too, to play, and to learn and reflect on some of the great stories of
our faith.
11 16 year olds will meet with Laurea Glusman and with Buck and the
younger kids, too, to enjoy fellowship, and to learn and reflect on some of
the great stories of our faith.
Adult Ed The Adults will gather in the west wing for the first of a
five-part series on Confronting the Sin of Racism (see attached) Led by Joy
M. Salyers
5:00 PM Holy Eucharist The Vicar will Celebrate. The Rev. Liz
Dowling-Sendor will preach. Child Care and Education for 1-5 year-olds
during the Liturgy of the Word. Commissioning of All who work in pursuit of
knowledge -- teachers, students, scholars and administrators; researchers,
inventors, scientists, and information specialists; historians,
philosophers, theologians, and all who seek a deeper understanding of truth
6:20 PM Advocate Table Fellowship Please plan to stay for supper
(provided by Dinner Group 3), fellowship and conversation.
7:00 PM Head out into the world in Peace.
Looking Ahead
Wed., Jan. 10 Contemplative Prayer Inexperienced & experienced
contemplatives welcome for this time of guided contemplative prayer. Come &
dwell with God. At Ephesus Place. 6:00-6:45 PM.
Thurs., Jan. 11 Lunch at Club Nova The Advocate has an ongoing relationship
with Club Nova, a clubhouse for persons with severe & persistent mental
illness. Join the Vicar & others for lunch with members of Club Nova.
Clubhouse tour at 12:30 PM & lunch at 1 PM. 103 W. Main Street, Carrboro
(across from the InterFaith Council)
Fri., Jan. 12 Lesser Feast Friday (Remembering William Laud).Holy
Eucharist at the Occasional Chapel at Ephesus Place. 12 Noon.
Fri., Jan. 12 Film Night with Community Engagement As a prelude to the
Annual Legislative Breakfast for Mental Health, the Community Engagement
Group will show a documentary film that chronicles those who live with
mental illness, those who live & care for them and how mental illness
permeates much of our society and legal system. At Ephesus Place. Dinner at
6 PM. Film starting at 7 PM.
Sat., Jan. 13 Annual Legislative Breakfast for Mental Health.
Lee Smith, Hillsborough resident & author, will describe the journey of her
son, Joshua, who lived with schizophrenia for 17 years with the aid of new
anti-psychotic drugs, family support, & extensive services from a variety of
community agencies. This informative session with members of the North
Carolina Legislature, will focus on the need for good community-based
services for those with mental illness. The Friday Center, 100 Friday
Center Drive. Continental breakfast: 9:00 am. Program: 9:30-11:30 am. RSVP
