Dear People and Friends of the Advocate --

Looking Ahead:
Shrove Tuesday, February 20 Dessert potluck and burning of the palms.
Bring along a dessert or any other beverage or food you may be ³giving up
for Lent² and help with the burning of the palms in the fire place at
Ephesus Place. 7PM.
Ash Wednesday February 21. Holy Eucharist and the Imposition of Ashes. 7PM
at the Kehillah.
Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust: Preparing for your funeral.
As we reflect on our own mortality on Ash Wednesday, we are invited as well
to reflect on our funeral and burial plans -- cremation or not? Where would
the funeral be? Where would the burial be? What hymns or readings do you
want at your funeral? Forms will be available at the church, on the enews
and at Ephesus Place beginning Ash Wednesday and throughout Lent. Reflecting
on these things is sobering. You needn't plan the whole thing, but taking
time to think about it is important, and any thoughts or suggestions, any
guidance you provide, is also very helpful to your church, family and
friends in the event of your death.
Welcoming the Sabbath
"Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy" is, for many of us, one of the
least-observed commandments. During Saturday evenings in Lent, the Rev. Liz
Dowling-Sendor will lead an Evening Prayer liturgy and provide a time when
we can reflect on how we might "remember and keep" the Sabbath as part of
our Lenten observance. We will meet at 6 PM at Ephesus Place on Saturdays
in Lent: February 24, March 3, March 10, March 17, and March 24.
May the Sun of Righteousness shine upon you, and scatter the darkness from
before your path. (Epiphany Blessing from the Book of Occasional Services.)
