Dear People and Friends of the Advocate:
Alleluia, Christ is risen indeed!
Here's what's happening at the Advocate in the days ahead. New
Information in RED.
Please see the Advocate Web Site (www.ouradvocate.org) for further
updates and information.
Tues, May 1 Holy Eucharist for the Feast of St. Philip & St James.
In the Occasional Chapel at Ephesus Place. 12 noon.
Wed, May 2 Contemplative Prayer at Ephesus Place. Open to all.
6:00-6:45 PM.
Sunday, April 29 The Fourth Sunday of Easter
3:30 PM Set-up of worship space at the Kehillah and Rehearsal of
music for the day.
4:00 PM Christian Education for youth and Adults: Adults and older
youth will gather in the West Wing at the Kehillah with the Vicar to
learn more about the challenges facing the Episcopal Church and the
Anglican Communion today.
5:00 PM Holy Eucharist. Child Care and Education for 1-5 year-olds
during the Liturgy of the Word.
6:20 PM Advocate Table Fellowship -- Please plan to stay for
supper (provided), fellowship and conversation.
7:00 PM Head out into the world in Peace.

Monday, May 7 Women and Aging. Dr. Eleanor Krassen Coven, Director of
Gerontology Proram at UNC-Wilmington will present this forum at the
Cedars,(in the ballroom). Noon- 4 PM. For more information, contact
the Vicar.
Tuesday, May 8 Holy Eucharisit to remember and celebrate Dame
Julian of Norwich. In the Occasional Chapel at Ephesus Place. 12 noon.
Wednesday, May 9
Bishop’s regional visitation and confirmation. Come help the
Advocate host the other congregations of the Durham Convocation and
support Sharon and Chris Ringwalt as they are confirmed. The Rt. Rev.
Michael Curry will be celebrant and preacher. At the Kehillah. 7:00
PM. (note: there will be no Contemplative Prayer this day).
Sunday, May 13 Adults and youth will gather in the West Wing
at the Kehillah with the February 2007 Haiti Mission Team to learn
more about St. Innocents Church and School on La Gonave Island in
Haiti and how the Advocate can partner with the people there, as well
as plans now underway for a second trip ahead in December. 4PM.
Thursday, May 17 Feast of the Ascension. We will gather in the
Occasional Chapel at Ephesus Place for a Holy Eucharist and a Look at
Luke. Using a guide provided by the Diocese, we will read and discuss
Bishop Curry's reflections on the theme of mission in the Gospel of
Luke, the principal gospel for Easter Season in this year's
Lectionary Cycle C. Led by the Vicar. 7 PM - 8:30 PM at Ephesus
Place. (note change in date from earlier communication)
Saturday, May 19 The Hope Environmental Conference: See the film
Kilowatt Ours, which reveals the consequences of our coal-powered
economy. Learn the latest science on global warming from Dr. Norm
Christensen, Professor at the Nicholas School for the Environment and
Earth Sciences at Duke University. Discover hopeful approaches and
practical efforts you can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
lessen the severity of rapid climate change,and restore God's
Creation for our children and future generations, presented by North
Carolina Interfaith Power & Light, a program of the NC Council of
Churches. Be inspired by Bishop Chip Marble, of the Episcopal Diocese
of North Carolina, as he shows us how our planet, our life, and our
work are matters both earthly and spiritual. This statewide
conferecen will be held at Chapel of the Cross, 304 East Franklin
St., Chapel Hill, 9:00 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. If you are interested in
attending, please contact the Vicar or Buck Cooper.
Monday, May 21 Next Conversation on Race. As we
continue to work as a congregation to be more aware of white
privilege and to oppose racism in ourselves and in our world, we will
gather at the home of Sissy and William Holloman for the second of
three expected conversation on race. Conversation Two: How we
experience race today. 6:30 - 8:00 PM. Bring a dish to share as you
are able. Child care provided. You need not have come to the first
conversation to participate in the second. But to facilitate
