Dear People and Friends of the Advocate:

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and  
put on the armor of light.... (Collect for the First Sunday of Advent)

Here's what's happening at the Advocate in the days ahead! New  
Information in RED. Please see the Advocate Web Site

Wednesday, December 12 --

	Their Stories Live On:  An Interfaith Study of the Book of Genesis.  
Join us as we meet with the Rabbi and members of the Chapel Hill  
Kehillah to study and discuss the stories of Genesis.  Our interfaith  
group, open to all, will engage together in a Chevrutah study of the  
story of Cain and Abel,  at 12 Noon (bring a bag lunch) at the  
Kehillah Chapel.

	Contemplative Prayer – 6-6:45 PM at Ephesus Place. Open to all -  
seasoned contemplatives and those who have never tried this way of  
praying before. Come and dwell with God.

	Advent Evensong in the Occasional Chapel at Ephesus Place      
Evening Prayers with simple chants and a brief meditation appropriate  
to the Season. 7:00 - 7:30 PM.

Sharing Christmas: This Advent/Christmas the People of the Advocate  
are invited to share our bounty by giving items to a family from El  
Centro Latino -- a newborn named Julio, a ten-year-old girl (size  
12), a teen-age girl (misses size 8) and their mother (misses size  
8). No item is too small -- food, diapers, clothing. A basket will be  
provided at the Kehillah to collect items the first through the third  
Sunday of Advent (December 16).

Sunday, December 16 -- The Third Sunday of Advent

4:00 PM 		Set-up of worship space AT THE KEHILLAH  and Rehearsal of  
music for the day.

5:00 PM  		Holy Eucharist. The Vicar will celebrate and the Rev.  
Rhett Brown will preach. Child Care and Education will be available  
for 1-5 year-olds during the Liturgy of the Word this Sunday.

6:20 PM 		Take-down, put away, and head out to the Davies' home for  
dinner (provided), fellowship and song. Directions will be provided  
at Church.

8 PM or so		Go forth into the world in Peace.



Looking Ahead

Friday, December 21		The Feast of St. Thomas will be celebrated with  
a Holy Eucharist in the Occasional Chapel at Ephesus Place at noon.

Saturday, December 22		Advent Labyrinth Walk and Quiet Time
Gather at the setting of the sun with other people of the Advocate at  
the Duke Meadowlands Campus in Hillsborough for time of prayer, an  
introduction to the labyrinth and an opportunity for reflection on  
darkness. Led by William Holloman and Char Sullivan.
Child Care provided (please contact William Holloman by 12/19 if you  
would like child care).
Starting time 4 PM, ending time 6 PM. The house will be open at 3:30  
for those who wish to arrive early.
Directions: from Chapel Hill 86 North to Hillsborough. Right turn on  
70 business. .3 miles, right turn on Meadowlands Drive. First right  
onto Corporate Drive. Follow the circle to the right around the house  
towards the barn.  (if you get lost, call 919-219-4437).

Anticipating Christmas

Christmas Eve (Monday, December 24) Holy Eucharist at the Kehillah at  
8 PM. Followed by a festive snacks.

Christmas Day (Tuesday, December 25) Holy Eucharist at the Occasional  
Chapel at Ephesus Place at 5 PM. Followed by a sharing of Christmas  
treats.

The First Sunday after Christmas Day (Sunday, December 30) Lessons  
and Carols and Holy Eucharist at the Kehillah at 5PM.

New Year's Eve (Monday, December 31) Watch Night Service at the Faith  
Tabernacle Oasis of Love, 8005 Rogers Road, Chapel Hill. 10PM.

The Feast of the Epiphany (Sunday, January 6) Holy Eucharist at the  
Kehillah at 5 PM.  Followed by and Advocate Potluck Feast at the  
Ringwalts. (due to drought conditions, there will be no burning of  
the greens this year).


May the Sun of Righteousness shine upon you and scatter the darkness  
from before your path.... (Advent blessing, Book of Occasional Services)
