Dear All,
I was re-reading this and remembered a bus tour at a national KAB Conference in Washington D.C., where we were given a little box tied with ribbon as we got on the bus. It was after dinner, so the contents of the box were little cookies and desserts, which we could eat whenever we wanted to during the tour. There was also a small cup in the box, and someone came through the bus pouring champagne as we rode along! Made for an elegant feeling to the tour....champagne and moonlight and monuments!
You might do something similar as people get on the boat. Give them a little box or reusable zip-loc bag with finger foods--almonds, grapes and chunks of cheese or ????--just enough to tide them over till they get to the eco-reception and silent auction.
Having said that, I like to eat as much as anyone (and like Micke-y, I'll eat ANYTHING), but I'm always amazed when people say they are so hungry they can't tolerate a one hour boat or bus ride! Usually we overeat at conferences, in my opinion! I don't ever remember being hungry at a conference, but I remember being over-stuffed many times....Think we should aim for a happy medium.
Lois

I've responded to everyone individually but since most have similar questions...
Seasickness...
The boat is a catermeran and we will be on the Intercoastal Waterway so the ride should be fairly stable--weather depending. I had planned on offering a ride in a 15 passenger van for those who choose not the take the boat. I think it'd be wise to have a place on the registration form for people to make if they want alternative transportation to the aquarium. I think we may also be able to use one of the buses for no extra fee--they are rented on a daily biases. Thanks to all you guys who get seasick for your input!
Food...
Being hungry won't work and agree with everyone about being hungry at NAAEE and not liking the long lines. An advantage to the boat--appetizers are a must.
Weather...
I've put a call into the owners of the boat about the capacity on the lower level. I remember talking about that the first time I spoke with them so I must have taken that into consideration but don't see that in my notes. Yes, they have the zip-up plastic protection which will make it warmer and wind-free on that level. The boat is not quite as small as it looks in the picture. Will get back to you all when I hear from them.
Live auction...
Great enthusiasm and concerns--I agree with them all. Thanks for everyone's input!
