Hi All --

I'm headed out the door but wanted you all to know that I just sent
the following (with appropriate modifications) to the education
editor, environment reporter and the editorial page staff at the N&O.
The N&O has an online form, so you can't copy a couple of reporters
on the same missive.

I don't have time right now to follow up with the other daily papers,
but encourage you to use this, if you'd like, to send a blast to your
daily. Remember, if you do intend to send this to various writers at
a single outlet, let them know who else in the organization has been
contacted. It's about being polite.

If I had had more time, I probably would have been a bit more
eloquent, but life rolls on.

Talk with you soon --

Elizabeth

Hi Wade:

By way of a brief introduction, I'm the Communications Co-Chair if
the Environmental Educators of North Carolina, the professional
organization for environmental educators (classroom/parks/non-formal)
throughout the state.

I'm writing to you this morning, as word has come through the
pipeline that the U.S. House of Representatives will be voting
(either late today or tomorrow) on No Child Left Inside Act H.R. 3036.

In short, it will provide $100 million, to be distributed to states
with environmental literacy plans. The monies will be used for:
• Grants for Enhancing Education through Environmental Education
• Environmental Education Grant Program to Help Build National
Capacity NCLB Title V

A summary of the bill can be found at: http://www.cbf.org/site/
PageServer?pagename=act_sub_actioncenter_federal_nclb_amendment
Currently Bob Etheridge has signed on in support of this action.

Once action is taken, should you like to speak with an EENC
representative, we'd welcome the opportunity to discuss the No Child
Left Inside legislation, how environmental education fits into the
curriculum and North Carolina's Standard Course of Study

I can be reached at the following numbers:
703.281.6626 or 703.839.0977 (Believe it or not I now live in
Virginia but I still sit on the board of EENC -- they're fabulous
folks.)

A local contact is Lois Nixon. You might know her name from Big
Sweep, Wake County Keep America Beautiful and countless other
environmental endeavors. Lois can be reached at (919) 467-6474 or on
her cell phone at (919) 744-0117.

Because I can't seem to CC folks using this form, I wanted to let you
know that I'm forwarding this message to Keung and to your editorial
page editor. Don't want to double/triple plant (no pun intended).

Regards --
