Triangle Folk Music Society Annual Pot Luck "Sing-a-long" Party, Sunday, 5 pm, January, 22, 2006.

Ten years ago the Triangle Folk Music Society came into being for the purpose of bringing “folk” music to the Triangle.  Partly through our efforts non-local musicians have been able to experience the enthusiasm for live music that exists here.  Now, we need to plan for what the Triangle Folk Music Society will focus on for the next ten years and we are looking for your input.

Here is how you can be a part of the future vision of the Triangle Folk Music Society:

Have Fun:  Plan on coming to our annual Pot Luck "Sing-a-long" Party, Sunday, 5 pm, January, 22, 2006.  Please bring a pot luck dish as well as an instrument if you wish.  No singing ability is required or expected.   Details will be sent soon.

Make a Difference:  Would you like to be on the Board?  Board benefits include helping to choose what musicians to offer as well as free admission to our concerts. Basic responsibilities are attending a 1-1/2 hour meeting once a month and helping with putting on the concerts. The main qualification is that you enjoy listening to music.

Share your Ideas on Musicians:  Do you have a favorite folk musician or music that you would like us to bring to the Triangle?    We’re pretty flexible on the definition of "Folk".

Share your Ideas about Future Direction:  There are currently many venues that bring non-local, live folk music talent to the Triangle. The Triangle Folk Music Society is in the process of looking at its mandate for the next ten years.  Do you have any thoughts on this?  For example, should we devote more concerts to local musicians  who could thus take advantage of our expertise in organizing concerts and  of our non-smoking, acoustically phenomenal venue (the Durham Friends Meeting building near Duke).  Should we offer  music workshops, organize sing-a-longs, change to a house-concert format, offer children’s concerts?   There are so many things we could do.
