Friends,
I wanted to let you know about a couple of upcoming concerts that you
may not have heard about but should enjoy.
These events are being presented by some of our friends, so please
contact them for more information.
Pete Sutherland
Pete is our musical hero from Vermont who has composed some beautiful
songs,
plays a mean fiddle and banjo, plays fiddle, piano and vocals with the
contra
dance band the Clayfoot Strutters, played for years with Grey Larson and
Metamora, and has produced some lovely albums (Pete actually produced my
last
Irish/Appalachian recording, Blue Waltz and wrote the song I sing, The
Time
Draws Near). He has a wonderful new fiddle CD out called Streak O'Lean.

PETE SUTHERLAND, called by the Champlain Valley Festival, "practically
the most
musical person you may ever meet", has produced more than 70 recordings
of
traditional and contemporary acoustic music. Raised on a diet of
Broadway show
tunes, operatic arias and British invasion melodies, Pete discovered
both
traditional music and songwriting in college and like Huck Finn, "lit
out for
the territories." A warm-voiced singer and accomplished
multi-instrumentalist
known equally for his potent originals and his intense recreations of
age-old
ballads and fiery fiddle tunes, his music "covers the map", and shines
with
"...a pure spirit which infuses every bit of his music, and cannot fail
to move
all who hear him."

WASHBOARD SWING! SILENT FILM COMEDY! RAGTIME GUITAR! CLOWNING! SLAP
UPRIGHT BASS! VAUDEVILLIAN ANTICS! FUN!
the WIYOS play a singular style of Old-Timey American music that they
call "Vaudevillian Ragtime-Jugband-Blues and Hillbilly Swing." An
acoustic trio comprised of three vocals, washboard, harmonica, kazoo,
archtop/resonator guitar/banjo-guitar/banjo-ukulele, and upright bass,
The Wiyos transport listeners back to a time before TV and mass media
were the main sources of entertainment; to the days when acoustic,
handmade music could be heard on live radio and at community dances,
medicine shows and house parties.
the WIYOS have become one of the most recognized and acclaimed old-timey
acoustic bands on the east coast. They are touring in support of their
self-titled third record "The Wiyos" which is mainly comprised of
original songs inspired by the old-time stringbands, blues singers,
jugbands and hot jazz ensembles of the 1920's & 30's.
The Long View Center Acoustic Series is committed to bringing the best
acoustic artists to the area. We hope you will join us for an
exceptional evening of music in one of the Triangle's most unique
performance spaces!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Cleary
