For our first concert of the fall season, we are pleased to welcome Bob Zentz. Bob comes to us from Virginia.
Bob Zentz is, a singer of Songs, Old & New, about people, places and times gone by, as well as a player on dozens of the usual, and unusual ‘unplugged’ Folk Instruments. He is a collector of Stories in Verse, a teller of ‘the tales behind the songs’, a commentator on the ecology of the ‘human spirit’ and a scholar of the evolution of ‘home-made music’.
A Bob Zentz CONCERT, is a smorgasbord of contemporary, traditional and original songs, tunes and chat, linked by the artist’s philosophic perspective, thematic-logic and a strong ‘sense’ of- history, humanity and humor. In performance, the audience becomes involved, creating a spirit of community, through shared choruses and related ideas.
>From traditional Celtic Tunes and Ballads to-Science Fiction Songs, and Sea Chanteys: from Tales of ‘Old Timers and Old Rhymers’, to Poetry, [set to Music], each show is a unique testimony to Bob’s vast repertoire and varied personal interests.
And, Sure! Bob Zentz sings some ‘Songs He Writes’,... But, alas!- that’s just ‘cause he couldn’t find ‘em.... anywhere else!
Here's what some other folks have said about Bob:
“Our live "Folkstage" artist was Bob Zentz. He is the epitome of everything right about folk music. He mixes originals, covers and traditional with a thoroughly engaging and often riotously humorous narrative. He's very entertaining and a superb musician, playing about 12 instruments. If you don't know Bob, you should get to know him and his music”.
Rich Warren, WFMT’s “Folkstage” & “Midnight Special”, Radio programs
“ Zentz has it all...a bag of strikingly attractive songs... a pleasing voice... and mastery of a variety of stringed things”
-The SCOTSMAN, Scotland’s Newspaper
“Mirrors and Changes...is one of the finest works I’ve heard by any artist”
-Johnny Cash, Legendary Singer
“Bob...is an excellent folklorist. He’s just a perfect folk performer.”
-Justin Kodner, Princeton Folk Society
“Zentz’ enthusiastic style, anecdotal comments and unique humor delighted the audience and kept them involved... He is a consumate teacher, [whose] songs rang true, because his approach was legitimate.
-Bob Ruegsegger, Virginia Beach Sun
“We need songs like this, and people like Bob, more than they’ll ever need us to describe them.”
-Gordon Bok, Poet, Singer & Philosopher
