Hi Mark,
Thanks for the cudos! I'm forwarding your message to our board members
who would love to hear your compliments. The site was not managed or
even up for a time, until I went to the effort of getting it back going
again. I don't really have the time or skills to do all the work it
really needs, so I keep begging for help from any and all! I'm delighted
that you found it useful.
Most of these maps are old and come from a variety of sources. We have
recently received notice that we got a grant which will eventually help
us update all Triangle area greenway and trail maps. We'll first update
the Triangle J Council of Governments database, and then go out and
attempt to walk or ride any greenways and trails where there are
questions. Then we'll turn this data over to cartographers who can
hopefully generate some usable trail maps. It will be a long process,
but we hope to improve what we have on this website so everyone can
access and use accurate trails and greenway maps.
Most of the trails and greenways in Raleigh, Cary and Durham are open to
bicycle use. There are a few portions of at least one of the Raleigh
greenways which you would have to walk your bike for a short segment.
This section is actually bypassable by riding down or up the street to
another access point. This isn't shown on the map, which needs some
severe updating!
Thanks to your suggestion, I'll see what I can do to go in an quickly
add some text or graphics to indicate bicycle accessibility on site's
trails and greenway maps. However, keep in mind that most of these
trails and greenways are open to bicyclists.
Thanks for writing. Thanks for the compliments. Please let me/us know
how we can be of service. I hope you'll consider joining the Triangle
Greenways Council by following the link at the site.
Happy Trails,
Bill Bussey
