OUR TOPIC:
Title: How Data Management Impacts the Quality of Research
Presenter: Constance T. Cirrincione, MS
Senior Statistician
Duke University Cancer Center
Summary: The importance of the CRA’s role in the research process is
often underestimated. My goal is to show CRAs, with specific examples,
how the quality of their work can make a big difference in research
findings. I begin with an overview of the research process used in
cancer research. I state the important components of the process,
namely, defining the sample, formulating the study hypotheses,
designing the study, analyzing the data and reporting the results. For
each component I give examples from actual cancer treatment protocols.
I show how inaccurate, incomplete or delinquent data can change study
findings.
