System incompatibility continues to throw wrench in health system IT
operations
In a problem of incompatibility that is all-too-common at health care
organizations, Canton, Ohio's Nova Behavioral Health has had to stop using
convenient hand-held electronic survey tools to gather data required by
the state because the Microsoft-made system did not integrate with Nova's
Unix-based mainframe system. The organization hopes to remedy the problem
when its wireless connectivity improves. Health Data Management (2/1)

Patient privacy weighs on efforts to set up health information network
As efforts to establish a national health information network begin, the
concern that's becoming most pressing is the need for safeguards to
protect patient privacy. Fears of unauthorized access to patient
information loom large, and experts describe growing conflicts between
business needs (to get as much information on individuals as possible) and
personal needs (to release minimal information to as few people as
possible). eWEEK.com (2/7)
