The first version of a map containing many SNPs has been published in the journal Science, and presented at a meeting of AAAS. A second version of the map is due later this year, from the International HapMap Project. Working with 71 individuals from three diverse populations, the authors have characterized more than 1.5 million differences in human DNA sequences. Ten million SNPs are thought to exist, but this collection is thought to be the most common set. The map does not say which SNPs cause various physical or disease-related traits.

You probably need to be a subscriber to read the full text. (my employer is a subscriber, so you can probably read this at the Duke library).
