thursday May 19 and friday may 20 of this week, two speakers from the
Biozentrum
in Basel are visiting: Professors Erik van Nimwegen and Mihaela Zavolan.
They will
each be giving an informal talk at noon on thursday and friday respectively,
in the large conference room in [CB]2.
A brief desctiption of their interests is appended below.
Please let me kow if you are interested in meeting with either of them
on friday.
Take care,
Tom
Erik Van Nimwegen: http://www.biozentrum.unibas.ch/nimwegen/index.html
My general research interests revolve around understanding regulatory
design principles in molecular biological systems. My recent work has
focused on inferring genome-wide transcriptional regulatory networks
using comparative genomics, and the study of scaling laws in
gene-content across all sequenced genomes.
Mihaela Zavolan: http://www.biozentrum.unibas.ch/zavolan/index.html
In the 1 1/2 years that I have spent in Basel I have focused on developing
computational methods for non-coding RNA discovery. I have developed a
platform
for annotation and _expression analysis of small RNA cloning libraries,
computational tools to predict miRNA genes and their mRNA targets.
